GO ON A JOURNEY TO JUNEAU, ALASKA

This is a true story about the adventures of a man who flies to Juneau, Alaska to care for his colorful uncle who is in the final days of battling cancer. Not knowing what to expect or if he was prepared, Fredric Brewer travels to this northern city tucked away within towering mountain ranges and frigid Pacific waters.

Once he touches down, he witnesses the activity and majestic beauty of the region that make it so unique. He does his best to keep his uncle comfortable while learning a little more about the family member who was always a mystery to him growing up. During his stay, he learns more about the man, the state and the disease.

The sounds of rushing water cascading off the roof and hitting the ground were the first signals it was morning. The cutting wind that had howled me to sleep the night before had changed to rain and was now periodically tapping the windowpane. It must have been coming down for quite a while because it washed away most of the five inches of snow that had accumulated from two straight days of storms. There were green trees again outside my window covered with a wet sheen and a misty haze from the warmer temperatures. The ever-changing weather of Juneau had again surprised me this morning with another unexpected picture.

I love it!

I loved reading about Joe's colorful adventures and the beautiful landscape and history of Juneau. I laughed, cried and daydreamed about someday visiting this beautiful place. The author also does a nice job relaying the everyday aspects of caregiving -- a perspective we don't often talk or hear about.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Author told a lovely story of compassion, respect and a bit of intrigue regarding Joe's past. Also weaved a bit of an Alaskan travelogue. A very enjoyable and, at times emotional journey.
